David is the Latino Community Outreach and Services Counselor. He joined ILRC in 2001, after running his own business for over 20 years. A few years ago, David had a stroke that paralyzed his right side. He spent over a year in the hospital.
When I started to recover from being paralyzed, I used a wheelchair at first. Then I used a walker and finally graduated to a cane. Now I only use the cane to help stabilize me.
While recovering, I also used a grabber to help pick things up. Now I have better hand function but it is still somewhat limited on my right side.
I use the computer. I type with one finger on my left hand, even though Im right handed because of the diminished use of my right hand.
The computer is the most significant Assistive Technology to me because I use it practically 24 hours per day, every day to communicate with friends and businesses.
